This going off to war silk banner is a good example of the classic Japanese traditional banner whose origins date back to Samurai times. In WW II these were used to usher young men off to war and would be hung at home, their place of work, on the village street etc. This is a single sided hand/machine printed banner. Approximately 17" x 66". Above average constructioon with sewn border strip having a woven floral design. Top has crossed national (meatball) and war (rising sun) flags with arrmy star. Has hand painted salutation. Some age staining and water staining and 4 to 5 small holes. Gold colored bottom fringe.

This "Going Off to War" Banner is contructed of raw silk and is approximately 49" long by 17 1/2" wide with a combination of printed and handpainted designs. These were used as a decoration at going away parties when soldiers were mobilized and sent off to war. Condition is good. There is some fading and moth damage to the border and staining with a few minor holes to the main portion. Even so it displays very well. The top is sleeved for a pole (replacement included) so it can be readily hung up. w

Rare Japanese medical item. These boxes have Showa 18 (1943 date) stamp on the bottom of the box. Contains 9, 2cc glass vials which still contain iodine. Overall condition is good – VG, markings and labels are clear, boxes solid and intact, however some boxes show surface wear around the edges. These were originally produced in 1933 and have a Showa 8 date stamp on the top. The later stamp was for reinspection. NEAT DISPLAY ITEM!

Each one as the Army star on its front and the makres hallmark on its bottom. These are used so they may have a small chip or two and a manufacturer's blemish. VG example of the less common shallow type enlisted mans bowl, which measures approx. 7 ¼” in diameter and approx. 1 5/8” in depth. It is made of off white heavy glazed crockery with the army star on the front and is maker hall marked on the bottom. It is un-chipped and has no cracks, but may have mfg. blemishes. This item will display well with other Japanese personal items.

Canvas frames are nicely marked but somewhat dry and stiff with some age cracking. However these are still solid and will display well on helmet. Head strap is worn but strong enough for display (see pages 222 and 223 of Hewitt’s book: “Uniforms and Equipment of The Imperial Japanese Army”).

From the estate of a US Army Veteran of the Pacific Campaign (Philippines) who brought this back as a souvenir. Appealing to the Samurai tradition it features a bow and two arrows, a round device (life preserver-naval officer?) decorated with a dragon and a geisha fan with mealt ball device and eagle. Condition is good to VG: the arrow feathers have degraded and one of the arrows is missing its notch. Stands 15" tall with a stand of 3 1/2" W x 3 1/2" D x 1 1/4" H. A very unique collectible.

Captured leather bound wooden equipment box that was externally re-painted and labeled as a shipping container (probably used to send home helmets, bayonets, Nambu pistols etc.!) my Japanese translation is correct this is a Feb 1944 dated example of a 25’ canopy. Condition is VG and it is complete with all shroud lines. There is some moderate staining to the pack, but label is nice. Previous owner opened it so it’s ready for full display. Would look fantastic draped from the ceiling!

VG example of this pre-war double breasted over coat style which saw service up into WWII. These were popular in cold areas as they were warmer then the type 5 and type 98 over coats. It shows moderate wear and has no noticeable mothing. It has an issue tag inside. These are fancier than the other over coats with buttons having chrysanthemums and the cuffs having a design. Buttons are the vegetable type with one brass replacement.

Classic cold weather coat as worn by Japanese troops fighting in Alaska (Aleutian Islands: Kiska & Attu) during WWII. Has issue stamps inside with soldiers inked name. Condition is VG, no significant wear or mothing. NCO rank insignia is a post-war copy, all the rest is original.

This is a rare seaman’s jumper. Chest measures 44” neck to waist 21”, and middle of back to cuffs is 28” approx. These were meant to be worn loose. White portion of jumper has brown stains from age and possible storage stains. Overall jumper is in excellent condition. There are two internal breast pockets and under the rear collar flap is a tag with the soldiers ID on it and date of mfg of jumper.

Mint examples, came from estate of US Army Supply Major who served in the Pacific (sorry no other details available). Dark brown olive hue synthetic silk like material has wood buttons, leg ties and issue tag. It even has its cloth belt (no buckle). These are extremely rare.

Near excellent examples of dark (chocolate) OD cotton pants. Nicely marked, complete with belt. All zippers except left ankle fully function – it partially zips but displays fine. All zippers even have “pulls”. Nice examples of rare aviation item.

This Imperial Guard 2nd Regiment Sake Cup is handpainted. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The Guard Regiments were assigned in rotation to guarding the Emperor and the Imperial Palace. These were elite units that were also used in combat.
